AI can build a good looking website in minutes. What it does not tell you is what a web developer would check before launch. Doing it alone and handing it all to a developer both have tradeoffs. Assisted AI building gives you the speed of AI with a professional beside you.
Fast and low cost, but you only get what you know to ask for.
| SEO basics get missed | AI writes pages fast, but page titles, meta descriptions, headings, redirects and sitemaps are easy to skip when you do not know to ask for them. |
|---|---|
| Security and updates | SSL, plugin updates, spam protection and backups are rarely part of a prompt. They matter most after launch. |
| Card payments are a separate job | Connecting a payment gateway, testing checkout and getting approved is a different skill from building pages. |
| Legal pages and cookie consent | Privacy, cookie and terms pages plus a consent banner that works with analytics are needed before you track anyone. |
| Speed and mobile | Large images and heavy layouts slow a site down, and most customers will see it on a phone first. |
| Nobody to ask when it breaks | When something stops working you are searching forums or prompting again, often with your site offline. |
Expert work, with costs and waiting times to plan for.
| Higher upfront cost | A custom build is usually quoted as a project, so you pay for the whole website before it earns anything. |
|---|---|
| Small changes join a queue | A new price, photo or opening time can mean an email and a wait, because the developer manages the site for you. |
| Less hands on control | You see the finished site, but you may not learn how to edit it or add pages yourself. |
| Payments often quoted separately | Gateway setup, checkout testing and merchant approval are often a separate supplier and a separate bill. |
| AI tools may not be included | Chatbots, AI page writing and AI search readiness are newer, so they are not always part of a standard build. |
| Ongoing costs to plan for | Hosting, maintenance and support can be separate contracts on top of the build. |
The speed and control of AI, with a professional making sure the important details are right.
